The Story
I know, I know…. At this point, you are asking, “What in the world are you doing, including this in your list of projects?”
I had to include my 2006 Land Rover simply because it’s the best vehicle I have ever owned. I drove this vehicle for 16 years and used it mainly as my daily commuter for my drive to The Richards Group from Double Oak, TX to downtown Dallas. The drive was 31 miles in the morning and 31 miles home. It took me about an hour to get there and sometimes an hour and a half to get back home. Needless to say, I spent a tremendous amount of time in that vehicle.
The Range Rover was also excellent at towing vehicles given that I crisscrossed the country several times retrieving various classic cars. What is most impressive is that when I sold the vehicle, it had 300,420 miles on the odometer. It only had about 30,000 miles when I bought it as a two-year lease return in 2008. Many people have the impression that Range Rovers are unreliable and costly to repair. I definitely had all the necessary maintenance done. And repair bills can be a bit more expensive, but I did as much of the regular maintenance as I could and relied on the trusty folks at North Texas British to help me with things like transmission repairs.
In 2024, when I hit the 300,000-mile mark, I decided it was time to hand it off to someone else and put it up for sale. Within a week, a nice gentleman in Argyle, TX, picked up the vehicle for his 16-year-old son. He basically wanted a tank for his new driver and knew how safe a Rover was, given that this would be his first vehicle. After a three-month search, I found a 2021 Land Rover Range Rover long wheelbase model in Atlanta. It was a two-year lease return, first driven by an area attorney.
It’s safe to say I will continue to rely on the Land Rover brand as my daily driver.
