This vehicle falls under the category of “still in the chase”.  

A neighbor was clearing out her barn/warehouse on her property and conducted several weekend garage sales to sell off boxes and boxes of automotive parts.  There was a huge inventory of Ford Mustang parts, work benches, old toys, shelving, engine stands and more.   Over in the corner was a dusty vehicle with a canvas top.  Turns out the neighbor’s uncle, who is currently living in California, had left a 1950 Jeepster vehicle on the property for storage.  Apparently not a soul who had browsed through the garage sale inventory had paid any attention to the fact that the vehicle was for sale.

I had heard about it at a Town Hall meeting and decided to come check it out.   The unique front art deco grille caught my eye.  After thinking through all the steps to restore the vehicle, we agreed on a price.  I asked if they could find two things for me: 1) the title and 2) the keys, and I’d be over with a trailer to pick it up.   After a couple of weeks of hunting, the title was found, but the keys remained lost.  No worries, as the key and tumbler were easily secured online – turns out they are quite like the type used on a Briggs and Straton mower… who knew?

Now the bummer part.   Apparently, the uncle had second thoughts as I received a call informing me that he decided not to sell.  I’m still hoping he will change his mind.  Or the niece will get totally tired of storing and call me back.

The lesson here – when you agree to a price, pick it up ASAP.   Before they change their mind.
